Bang! Bang! Bang!,
I know you thought it was a gun,
No! No! No!,
It was the beat of a drum,
We can dance to it, we can sing with it too,
We can always take a moment to meditate to it’s mystical groove.
Boom! Boom! Boom!,
I know you thought it was a bomb,
Ha! Ha! Ha!,
It was the beat of a drum,
Our ancestors created it for us to understand where we come from.
The beat of the drum was the vibration which lifted their souls,
Giving respect for a vision to the rhythm that never gets old.
The original beat was embedded from our past for the future generations to come.
As the story repeats itself, same sentiment of the drum.
The drum created for where we kept all self respect.
Held by the drum to remember our stories with intellect,
Never to neglect, always a way to reflect.
Save your bet, for through pain and sufferance,
Never breaking our spirit as of yet.
Whack! Whack! Whack!,
I know you thought it was a whip,
Never ever did you all think that the drum is what we came equipped with.
So soothing, not even a savage beast could beat,
For in this bloodline, some things you could never defeat.
Talk with God,
For the drum was created from our past, for the present and to the future.
Lord, I hope for the blind may feel or see.
For the beat of a drum is life and freedom, for people of our ancestry.
Like some of you, with the same ancestral like of me.
The drum defines the rhythm in our melanin of you and me,
From our ancestors with dignity and integrity,
Lest not ever forget where we come from, no matter the lost,
Always remember the drum does not come with a cost.
So unique, a sound, so sweet, never forget that spiritual beat.
Bam! Bam! Bam!,
I know you thought it was a bat-a-ram,
No! not this time, for it was the drum beaten for all to gather around.
Tapping into the spirit to open our ears for God’s joyful noise of sound.
In finding direction to where we would be held and or bound.
Never lost, by God, always found,
For the drumbeat is what keeps us sound.
The beat of a drum still keeps us presently around.
